On January 19th,2024over 70 faculty and students from Kunming Medical University were invited to participate in the opening ceremony of “Yunnan:A Many-splendored Life” Yunnan Folk Song Singing Eventhosted by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism with the aim of experiencingthe splendored life in Yunnan through singing Yunnan folk songs. Mr.Zhao Guoliang, theDirector of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Yunnan Province attended the ceremony and delivered a speech.

Thefaculty and studentsofKunming Medical University from 12different countries dressed in eye-catching ethnic costumes, delivered a spectacular performance of the folk song “The Song ofHorse Herding” during the opening ceremony. Their clear and bright voices, along with their fluid dance movements, not only showcased the charm of Yunnan folk songs but also allowed the audience to experience the uniqueexpression of Yunnan folk songs by international students, earning enthusiastic and sustained applause and cheers and displaying of the healthy andpositive image of our students.

As a precious culturalheritage of China, Yunnan folk songs carry a long history and richcultural meanings, providing a uniqueexpression of Yunnan culture. This event allowedChinese and international students to appreciate the unique charm of Yunnan folk songs and deeply feel the attraction oftraditional customs. For international students, participating in andperforming Yunnan folk songs was a special and unforgettable cultural experience. It not only enhanced their artistic cultivation and proficiency in singing Chinese songs, but more importantly, deepened their understanding of Chinese traditional culture and the distinctive cultural characteristics of Yunnan. Additionally, during the event, international students also played the role of cultural ambassadors as their voices and dances were transmitted worldwide, allowing more people to experience the unique charm of Yunnan culture.

This event provided a valuable stage forboth Chinese and international studentsof Kunming Medical University, not only enhancing their interest in the Chinese language and culture but also strengthening communication and exchange between Chinese and international cultures through their participation.
